Our Mission
Education, Community, and Action for a Regenerative Edmonton
The Edmonton Permaculture Guild exists to spread permaculture knowledge, connect practitioners, and support projects that build food security, ecological health, and community resilience across the Edmonton region.

Why We Exist
The Edmonton Permaculture Guild was founded on a simple idea: when people learn to work with natural systems, communities become stronger, food becomes more secure, and landscapes become healthier.
We believe permaculture education should be accessible to everyone. We believe local knowledge and local action create lasting change. And we believe Edmonton has the people, the passion, and the potential to become a model of urban resilience.
Our Mission
To educate, connect, and empower individuals and communities in the Edmonton region to design and build sustainable human habitats through permaculture principles and practices.
We fulfill this mission by:
- Offering accessible permaculture education, from introductory workshops to our certified Permaculture Design Course
- Hosting events that bring together learners, practitioners, and educators
- Maintaining a directory of local regenerative professionals
- Supporting community-led projects that demonstrate permaculture in action
- Sharing knowledge, resources, and skills for building resilient local systems
Our Vision
To transform Amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton) into a resilient, equitable, and regenerative community.
We envision an Edmonton where:
- Edible landscapes replace unproductive lawns
- Neighbors share food, skills, and resources
- Urban agriculture strengthens local food security
- Ecological design guides how we build and live
- Permaculture knowledge passes freely between generations
Our Values
Education First
Knowledge is the seed of change. We prioritize teaching practical skills that people can apply in their own yards, communities, and lives.
Our Permaculture Design Course and year-round workshops exist because we believe informed people make better decisions for themselves and their landscapes.
Community Over Competition
Permaculture teaches that ecosystems thrive through cooperation. So do communities.
We bring people together, celebrate local expertise, and create spaces where knowledge flows freely. Potlucks are as important as lectures.
Accessible and Inclusive
Permaculture belongs to everyone. We work to remove barriers to participation, offer sliding scale options where possible, and welcome people of all backgrounds and experience levels. You dont need land to learn. You dont need a degree to contribute.
Rooted in Ethics
Everything we do flows from the three ethics of permaculture:
Earth Care – Stewardship of soil, water, and biodiversity. We design systems that regenerate rather than deplete.
People Care – Attention to human wellbeing, equity, and community health. We support each other.
Fair Share – Limits to consumption and redistribution of surplus. We take only what we need and share what we grow.
Action-Oriented
Ideas matter, but implementation matters more. We support projects that put permaculture principles into practice. We learn by doing. We measure success by what gets planted, built, and shared.
Local Focus
We serve Edmonton and surrounding areas. Our climate, our soils, our growing seasons, and our community shape everything we teach. Global knowledge, local application.
